Blackberry Storm SDK Incoming!

RIM’s not content with launching its own iPhone-batterer today, in the shape of the BlackBerry Storm, it wants to take on Apple’s App Store too, with the launch of its own Application Centre and an SDK to get developers filling their phones with new software!
Until now, the SDK has only been available to Google, YouTube, Vodafone (and presumably Verizon) as well as Telemap. But Today RIM is launching it to the public, hoping it’ll kick-start a wave of apps in the same way Apple did for the iPhone.
Developers tapping away at the SDK will be able to create apps using the BlackBerry Storm’s new super-haptic keyboard. It works by suspending the screen slightly above the keys, so it depresses slightly when pressed, creating a ‘click’ and giving physical feedback, just like a real button.
Unfortunately, developers creating apps will have to make do with 3G speeds, since there’s no Wi-Fi built into the BlackBerry Storm, but there is an accelerometer, ultra-responsive touchscreen, and camera to play with.
What do you think? Will RIM attract the same apps we’ve already seen for the iPhone and Android phones? Give us a shout in the comments section below.
