Dell Releases M6400 Covet Notebook

Dell has launched the M6400 Covet notebook, an addition to its Precision series. The Covet ships already configured with many of the high end options available in the Precision line, including a 17 inch LED backlit display that presents the full Adobe RGB gamut for color precision while editing videos or images. The NVIDA Quadro FX 3700M 1GB GPU also comes installed, stepping up from the 512MB model that comes in the base model M6400. The exterior is orange anodized aluminum, which gives the product a visual distinction from the rest of the series.

Despite the flagship status of the Covet, the included 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 processor falls in the middle of the available customization options. Customers can still add a T9600, X9100, or QX9300 processor to the package when ordering.

The pre-configured memory option ups the entry level product, with 2GB at the base price instead of 1GB, although both notebooks are upgradable to 16GB. A single 160GB drive with free fall sensor is provided, compared to 80GB without a sensor at the base level, but the second bay is still left unused if a customized option isn’t added.

The Dell website specs for the Covet and base M6400 both show the notebooks as having an option for the 17″ RGB display, although it is not shown for the base model on the customization screen where the customer selects the configuration to purchase. Dell may now only be offering the RGB option with the Covet package, although the website leaves that detail ambiguous. The Precision M6400 Covet is available now starting at $3900.
