Asus India Brings The Eee Box Desktop System To Indian Shores
Asus India announces the availability of its Eee Box desktop system in the Indian market. Said to be the world’s greenest, quietest and cost-effective desktop PC, the Eee Box is merely 1L in size and consumes 90% less power than conventional desktop PC and even emits only 26 decibels sound.
Targeted at the Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) and Home users, the Eee Box can either be placed besides a LCD monitor or mounted on a VESA LCD display. The other important attribute of the system is the usage of green material for its development. Designed with eco-friendly materials to eliminate CO2 emissions, the Asus Eee Box is RoHS-compliant and meets WEEE standards.
Powered by Intel Atom N270 processor, the newly launched miniature desktop can be accessed through a touch sensor button. Developed for internet surfing, the system incorporates Asus’ innovate Express Gate fast book technology to communicate IM/Skype, manage photos and browse the web within 7 seconds after boot up. It is compatible with the latest WiFi 802.11n wireless standard that boasts to deliver around six times faster connectivity as compared to the traditional 802.11b/g wireless.
Elaborating on the Eee Box launch, Benson Lin - Corporate Vice President of Asus, said, “With the ever increasing concern over global warming and the looming threat to the environment, ASUS has taken multiple initiatives in manufacturing green, eco-friendly products. These initiatives are part of our social and environmental responsibilities as well as part of ASUS’ strategic goal to tap the potential that ‘Green Industry’ has in future. We have made substantial investment in the R&D for green technology and will roll out products manufactured from environment-friendly materials, consuming much less power and conforming to stringent RoHS and WEEE standards.”
Moreover, the Eee Box also enables users to watch Internet TV through an IPTV player. Based on Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system, the desktop sports Intel Chipset, DDR2 SO-DIMM 1 GB memory and 80 GB HDD with support for SD/SDHC/MS/MS Pro/MMC card readers.
“The Eee Box uses the Intel Atom N270 (1.6 GHz) processor, based on an entirely new architecture designed from the ground up specifically for low power and performance in an ultra-small package. The Intel Atom processor packs more than 47million transistors into a single piece of silicon measuring less than 25mm², and has a thermal design power specification in the 0.6-2.5 watt range. This is our smallest processor built with the world’s smallest transistors and a fundamental shift in design, small yet powerful enough to enable a big internet experience on devices such as the Eee Box,” explained Gopal Swaminathan, General Manager, OEM Business, Intel South Asia.
Priced at Rs. 16,490, the Asus Eee Box is available across India through Croma and other retail channels.
